Letter from Catherine O'Driscoll
Catherine O'Driscoll
Holistic Canine Healthcare series
Dear Fellow Dog Lovers
Oliver was only four years old when he died. His loss was the beginning of years of grief. Soon after Oliver was gone, his sister Prudence came down with leukaemia and died, and five-year old Samson died of cancer. I guess that we’re all the same. When people we love die years before their time, we try to make sense of it – we try to find meaning behind senseless loss.
I personally found meaning by understanding what I had done wrong. It’s not that I had let my dogs down deliberately. In fact, I doubt anyone could have loved their dogs more than I loved mine. But I had let them down through ignorance – because I didn’t know any better.
For years after Oliver died, I was tortured with the question, ‘why?’, and eventually the answers started coming to me. It was at this point that I made a solemn vow. I vowed to share what I knew so that no-one had to stand over the bodies of their dead dogs saying, “If only someone had told me.”
But it’s hard to get through to people. I guess most dog owners are enjoying their dogs, having fun, and trusting that life will be good. They don’t anticipate a day when, like me, they’re trying to make sense of the grief they feel. Maybe we look away from anything that scares us.
I started Canine Health Concern in 1994 in order to research and share information about raising healthy long-lived dogs. My aim has always been to prevent human and animal suffering through education. I also believe that it’s right that the power should be in the hands of the dog owners, so that they can make choices which lead to long-lived dogs.
Today, I have three dogs. Gwinnie is fifteen, and Edward and Daniel are twelve. Their veterinary bills have been only around £10 per year. In fact, Gwinnie hasn’t needed to see a vet in years. Sophie and Chappie lived until they were 17 – which is quite unusual for Golden Retrievers.
The knowledge I wish to share with you is true, life-enhancing, and – actually – quite simple. I would love to help make a difference to your dogs’ lives, and to your lives. I believe that by offering an on-line lecture series, dog lovers around the world will be able to acquire life-enhancing information easily, simply, and quickly. We’ve also kept the price as low as possible to make that side of things easy for you – whilst, at the same time, providing information that will save you a fortune in vet bills.
The lectures will take a total of four hours of your time, divided into bite-size chunks over three weeks. During that time, you will learn so much, and your dogs will benefit enormously. Please join us, and help us to make this a people’s revolution in canine healthcare.
With love
